Walid Al-Houri is a researcher, journalist and media specialist, based in Mexico City. He holds a PhD in Media Studies from the University of Amsterdam, and is a former postdoctoral fellow at the Forum for Interregional Studies (EUME) and the Institute for Cultural Inquiry in Berlin.
Editor-in-Chief of UntoldMag.org and co-director of Untold Stories, he also serves as West Asia and North Africa editor for Global Voices.
He taught Middle Eastern studies, media studies, and political communication at Bard College Berlin, the American University of Beirut, and the University of Balamand.
His media work has focused on human rights, freedom of expression, immigration, social movements, and far-right politics, among other topics.
His academic work and publications address protest and opposition, especially in the West Asia and North Africa region, the politics of failure and crisis, and the geographies of war and violence.
